For many years, the scenery of Western North Carolina has provided a backdrop for a wide variety of Hollywood movies.
The early days of WNC film making featured Grace Kelly in The Swan which was filmed in part at the Biltmore House, and Thunder Road starring Robert Mitchum which was filmed in the Lake Toxaway area.
More recent Hollywood dramas include Dirty Dancing filmed in Lake Lure, and The Last of the Mohicans and The Hunger Games, filmed in part of Transylvania County.
Owen Wilson and Zack Galifianakis filmed an action comedy in Asheville during the summer of 2014. The film, not officially named yet, is inspired by the true story of a $17 million armored car company heist in Charlotte in 1997.
While you won't run into a star on every corner, you may spot one on occasion if you are quietly observant.
